Aliya Turetayeva was born in 1986 in Almaty, Kazakhstan and received her first piano lesson at the age of five. Aliya moved to Cologne, Germany to continue her studies at the Hochschule fuer Musik und Tanz Köln as a student of Professor Pavel Gililov. She was awarded her Masters degree in 2010.
During this time, Aliya played at many festivals, including Ruhr Piano Festival, International Holland Music Sessions, Ars Haliaeti Festival Slovenia, International Chamber Music Festival Stavanger, Norway, XIV Festival de Musica International Tenerife, Spain, Cittadella International Music Festival and Porto PianoFest. She also performed at many prestigious venues such as the Steinway Hall in London, WDR Funkhaus Kleiner Sendesaal, St Martin-in-the-Fields (Pianists of the World Series), London, Glaeserner Saal Musikverein, Vienna, Concertgebouw Kleine Zaal, Muziekcentrum Arke Zaal, Enschede, the Netherlands, Muramatsu Recital Hall, Shin-Osaka, Abeno Kumin Center / Small Hall, Osaka, Edvard Grieg Museum, Troldhaugen, Centro Cultural de Belem in Lisboa, Bruno Walter Auditorium at the Lincoln Center in New York, Weill Recital Hall, Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at the Carnegie Hall in New York, Elgar Room Royal Albert Hall, London, Villa Medici Giulini, Gesellschaft für Musiktheater, Wien, Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, Grande Salle du Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles, Arthur-Rubinstein-Saal Steinway Hall in Munich, Great Guild Hall in Tallinn, Theater Vorpommern, Kaisersaal Vienna and Billrothhaus in Vienna, Austria.
Aliya was a prizewinner at the Feurich International Competition in Vienna, at the Concert Artists International Competition in New York (2nd Prize and Outstanding Performance Award), 3rd prizewinner at the Verao Classico Festival in Lisbon, Portugal, finalist at the Osaka International Music Competition in Japan and finalist at the 2021 Vancouver International Music Competition. She was also awarded Diploma at the V. Krainev International Piano Competition for Young Pianists, 3rd Prize at Labia & Callegaro Prize in Italy, 2nd prize at the Vrsac International Chamber Music Festival, Serbia and an Honorable Mention Award at Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition in New York, USA. As a recipient of the Steinway Hall Prize at the KIPC 2019 in Kent, the UK, Aliya made her debut at the Steinway Hall in London in 2020.
Aliya's debut album, which includes works by Robert Schumann, was released in 2020 by the KNS Classical Label in Barcelona. The CD received wonderful criticism from many music magazines and reviewers worldwide - Fanfare Magazine (USA), ConcertoNet (USA), Misicalifeiten (The Netherlands), Info-Netz-Musik (Germany), New York Concert Review (USA), Schumann-Journal (Bonn, Germany), The WholeNote Magazine Toronto (Ontario, Canada) and Limelight Magazine, Australia's essential guide to music, arts and culture. As a soloist she recently performed with Orchestra d'Archi Ferruccio Benvenuto Busoni, Circle Symphony Orchestra Cittadella and Tartu-Maarja Chamber Orchestra.
Aliya has worked with many celebrated musicians including Stephen Kovacevich, Mikhail Voskresensky, Imogen Cooper, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro and Vladimir Krainev.
As well as her work as a soloist, Aliya is a dedicated chamber musician. She recorded chamber music works by G. Crumb and A. Schnittke for WDR Radio Cologne.
Aliya completed her Konzertexamen postgraduate studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg under the tutelage of Professor Gililov with the highest mark and has additionally studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in Belgium.
After a very tragical, unexpected and sudden death of Aliya's most beloved, kindest and very lovely little poodle Snoopy (Snupik Prokofiev), who died from an agressive, metastatic and inoperable cancer in February 2024, Aliya being absolutely broken, decided definitively to dedicate herself artistic research studies. Soon she was accepted into two programs - Luigi Nono: Resonances Summer School Program and Erasmus Blended Intensive Program 2024 at the leading European center for artistic research - Orpheus Institute in Ghent, Belgium.
